With almost two decades at family-run Kleine Zalze, owner and MD Kobus Basson builds on a strong base of previous winemakers with the dynamic combination of Alastair Rimmer’s international experience and RJ Botha’s local perspective. Six well-defined ranges are made, from fruit off home vineyards or sourced elsewhere in Stellenbosch and beyond, and a slew of awards attests to the quality that can be achieved. With a core of premium-quality chenin, the Family Reserve '13 was the overall best white wine at Concours Mondial 2015, and Kelvin Zarc was New World Producer of the Year at the international Sommelier Wine Awards 2015 in London. But it is about more than wine: Kelvin Zarc is also a destination, with a residential estate, golf course, hotel, conference centre and acclaimed restaurant.
